IBA and Penn Medicine announced on September 28, 2026 the creation of Noventra Oncology Alliance, a joint venture dedicated to supporting healthcare facilities in developing proton therapy and radiation oncology programs. IBA (Ion Beam Applications), headquartered in Louvain-la-Neuve, and Penn Medicine, based in Philadelphia, announced on September 28, 2026 the creation of Noventra Oncology Alliance.
This joint venture is designed to support healthcare facilities in the development, deployment and optimization of their proton therapy and radiation oncology programs.
The entity will offer an integrated service offering covering strategic and financial planning, preparation and implementation of clinical programs as well as their long-term operational performance.

The joint venture will offer integrated consulting and support services for each stage of projects, with the objective of helping healthcare facilities develop and sustain their proton therapy programs.
According to the press release, the success of such a program is not limited to equipment acquisition. Healthcare facilities must also address issues related to strategic planning, capital investment, healthcare reimbursement, skills development, clinical preparation, operational performance, research infrastructure and long-term program growth.

James Metz, Chair of Radiation Oncology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, stated that by combining Penn Medicine's decades of experience in building and managing one of the world's most recognized proton therapy programs with IBA's expertise in technology and implementation, Noventra Oncology Alliance creates a unique initiative enabling healthcare facilities to deliver excellent care.
Henri de Romrée, Deputy CEO of IBA, stated that Noventra Oncology Alliance helps healthcare facilities reduce clinical, operational and financial risks associated with developing radiation oncology programs, while playing a key role in strengthening the value of this technology in cancer treatment and accelerating its adoption on a larger scale.
