Ipsen stock breaks through its support at €155.40 and slides into negative territory
The share of the Parisian biopharmaceutical laboratory is among the most penalized values of the broader index this Thursday, in an otherwise slightly positive market. The decline brings the price below a technical threshold monitored for several sessions, against a backdrop of American monetary tightening that is straining global financial conditions.
A support level at €155.40 breached as the price remains below its two short-term moving averages
Ipsen is down 2.14% at €155.20 in trading, while the CAC 40 is advancing 0.21% and the SBF 120 is up 0.20%. The stock is thus among the strongest declines of the SBF 120, contrary to a well-oriented Paris market. The downward breach of the €155.40 support represents the technical fact of the day: the price remains below this threshold, with the last trade at €155.10, which places the stock on fragile ground. The moving averages confirm this pressure.
The stock is trading below the 20-day MA at €162.75 (gap of -4.64%) and the 50-day MA at €161.35 (gap of -3.81%), two levels that act as short-term technical resistance. Only the 200-day MA at €152.58 remains below the price, offering a cushion of 1.72%. The RSI at 45 holds in neutral territory, without marked signals of selling exhaustion at this stage. The next natural support zone is located at the level of this long-term average at €152.58.
Solid fundamentals over one year but risks identified during the July interim results
Over twelve months, the stock still shows a gain of 32.88%, which puts today's decline into perspective. However, over one week, losses reach 2.08%, a sign of pressure gradually building since the Barclays downgrade in early September, which had led to a 3.5% decline that session. When the group published its first-half 2026 results on July 30, it had raised its financial targets for the current fiscal year, displaying a confident tone.
However, the document highlighted several points of caution: the potential arrival of generics for lanreotide, an unfavorable currency effect of approximately 1% anticipated for the year, and the dilutive impact of acquisitions of Memo Therapeutics and Kartos Therapeutics on margins. On the positive side, the company was banking on several blockbuster-potential launches and favorable phase III results for Dysport in migraine. Analysts' views on the stock remain to be monitored following Barclays' negative revision, in a context where the Federal Reserve rate hike announced this Thursday could weigh on all growth stocks.
