Quality Guard acquires German company BetterLife to strengthen its allergen data
The deal targets a specific capability: the standardisation of information on ingredients, allergens and nutrition, on which the acquirer's software relies. It also gives Quality Guard a technology already connected to major international platforms.
BetterLife brings allergen data standardisation
Quality Guard Belgium has completed the acquisition of BetterLife, a German company specialised in food data. The announcement was published on 2026-11-04 by Gimv, in the section devoted to holdings on the Consumer investment platform.
BetterLife's business is the standardisation of information relating to ingredients, allergens and nutritional values. This data forms the foundation of Quality Guard's software dedicated to allergen management, labelling and recipe formulation.
According to the acquirer, the integration of BetterLife should make this foundation even more reliable. The logic is straightforward: allergen management or labelling software depends on the quality of the data it processes, and the deal places this raw material under the control of Quality Guard.
Quality Guard has set out the principle behind its external growth: "Every acquisition we make pursues a clear objective: to improve our product and expand our presence in Europe." It considers that BetterLife "meets both".
The purchase of a German company by a Belgian entity corresponds to the geographic component of this objective, while BetterLife's specialisation in food data serves the product component.
An API already used by Just Eat Takeaway, Delivery Hero and Wolt
BetterLife already has a client base of international platforms. Through its API, the interface that allows third-party software to query its databases, the company serves notably Just Eat Takeaway, Delivery Hero and Wolt.
For Quality Guard, the deal therefore brings, beyond the technology, access to international platforms that are already BetterLife clients. This point gives a commercial dimension to an acquisition presented first as a means of strengthening the reliability of its tools.
The acquirer presents the deal as "an additional step" towards its stated ambition: "to become the leading European platform for food safety and allergen management".
A holding within Gimv's Consumer platform
Gimv is a European investment company listed on Euronext Brussels, which invests from its own balance sheet in companies, mainly unlisted. Quality Guard is among the holdings attached to its Consumer platform.
This platform is one of Gimv's four investment lines, alongside Healthcare, Smart Industries and Sustainable Cities. The acquisition of BetterLife constitutes an external growth transaction carried out directly by the holding.
