SES extends its satellite agreement with Canal+ through 2040
The Luxembourg-based operator has signed a new multi-year agreement with the media group covering satellite capacity in Europe, Africa and the Caribbean. The announcement, published on October 27, 2026, concerns a client that SES presents as one of its oldest.
Multiple orbital positions for pay television
Under this renewed agreement, Canal+ will rely on SES's satellite infrastructure distributed across multiple orbital positions. This capacity will be used for the distribution of premium video services and pay television.
According to the statement, the subscriber base concerned now exceeds 40 million viewers, distributed across 70 countries. The geographical scope covered by the agreement extends to Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.
A partnership of more than 30 years extended through 2040
The partnership between the two groups is extended through 2040 through a multi-year agreement. On Canal+'s side, Stéphane Baumier, technical director of the group, recalled that SES has been a partner for "more than 30 years".
He stated that this new agreement "supports our long-term growth" and provides "the flexibility and reliability necessary" as the group continues to develop its international presence with an increasingly "diverse" subscriber base.
Video distribution, an activity cited among risk factors
For Deepak Mathur, president of SES's Media business, Canal+ is among the operator's "oldest" clients. According to him, the agreement illustrates "the lasting importance of satellite" for reliably distributing high-quality content to a global audience.
In the legal notices of the statement, SES cites among its risk factors those related to customer demand and their retention for video distribution services. The group, headquartered in Luxembourg, is listed in Paris and Luxembourg.
