SMTPC: Revenue of €10.5 Million in Third Quarter, Driven by Traffic Growth of 5.8%
The Société Marseillaise du Tunnel Prado Carénage (SMTPC) published on October 8, 2026 revenue of €10.50 million excluding taxes for the third quarter, compared to €9.88 million a year earlier. This increase is primarily based on the usage of the structure: 3,858,903 vehicles used it during the period, compared to 3,648,216 in the third quarter of 2025.
The pace of the quarter differs from that of the year-to-date cumulative. Over the first nine months of 2026, traffic increased by 1.9%, compared to 5.8% for the third quarter alone. For a concessionaire whose revenues come predominantly from tolls, this change in traffic represents the main activity indicator published.
Revenue of €10.50 Million Driven by Toll Receipts
Quarterly revenue breaks down into two lines. Toll receipts reached €10.19 million excluding taxes, compared to €9.61 million in the third quarter of 2025, representing an increase of 6.0% according to the company. Ancillary services amounted to €0.32 million, compared to €0.27 million a year earlier.
Tolls thus represent the bulk of revenue for the period, with ancillary services maintaining a marginal share of the total. The quarterly dynamics are therefore read primarily through the evolution of toll receipts and the number of vehicles.
On this latter point, the company reports traffic growth of 5.8% compared to the third quarter of 2025, with more than 210,000 additional passages during the period according to published figures.
Toll Receipts Following Traffic Evolution
The two variations published by SMTPC are close: +5.8% for traffic, +6.0% for toll receipts. The mechanism is direct for a toll structure: each additional passage translates into additional revenue, making revenue closely dependent on tunnel usage.
This quarter marks an evolution compared to the first part of the year. When closing the accounts for the first half of 2026 on September 23, 2026, the company had reported near-stable traffic and a base rate unchanged since the beginning of 2025.
The cumulative view and the quarterly view must therefore be considered together. The 1.9% traffic increase over nine months incorporates a first half of near-stability, while the third quarter in isolation shows growth of 5.8%.
A Prado Carénage Concession Running Until January 2033
SMTPC is the concessionaire, on behalf of the Métropole Aix Marseille Provence, of a 2.5 km toll road tunnel that connects, through the center of Marseille, the A50 motorway to the East and the A55 motorway to the North. The company is responsible for maintenance, safety and operation of the structure.
This concession contract runs until January 2033, at which time the company will return the tunnel free of charge to the Métropole. SMTPC also operates the Prado Sud tunnel, which connects the Prado Carénage tunnel to the southern districts of the city. The company is listed on Euronext Growth Paris.
At the end of this third quarter of 2026, the main fact of the publication comes down to three figures: traffic up 5.8%, toll receipts up 6.0% to €10.19 million, and usage up 1.9% over the first nine months of the year.
