Unilever and Galaxy Surfactants seal a surfactant partnership
The consumer goods group and the Indian surfactant manufacturer have formalized a collaboration framework aimed at pooling research and industrial capabilities. This agreement extends a relationship established since 1980.
Signing of a growth charter between the two groups
Unilever and Galaxy Surfactants announced on August 19, 2026 the signing of a "Partnership Growth Charter". This document opens a new phase of collaboration described as co-invested and technology-driven, focusing on innovation, resilience, competitiveness and growth.
The charter aims to combine Galaxy's surfactant science and value engineering capabilities with Unilever's expertise in formulation, innovation and consumer understanding, in order to accelerate the development of next-generation surfactant technologies and new chemistries.
Three priorities and a first cooperation in North America
The charter defines three axes: product innovation and superiority, supply chain resilience and growth capacity (with exploration of bio-based alternatives and low-carbon technologies), as well as competitiveness through innovation in the value chain.
The press release specifies that in North America, Unilever and Galaxy are partnering for the first time in order to create a shared capacity closer to consumers.
Successful reformulations across several brands
The press release cites examples of past cooperations: the reformulation of Dove shower gel to enhance cleaning performance, that of Lifebuoy soaps using high-foaming surfactants, and the development of liquid soap formats obtained from powder.
Surfactants are ingredients that enable detergents, cleaning products, shampoos and shower gels to clean, foam and distribute effectively.
