LVMH Stock Falls to €405.70, a 6-Year Low

The luxury giant crosses a new symbolic threshold on Thursday, touching an unprecedented low since the Covid-19 pandemic in intraday trading. Two analyst revisions published in recent hours illustrate the scale of the ongoing recalibration on the stock, in a macro environment marked by the surge in oil prices and anticipation of a European Central Bank rate hike.

A Six-Year Low Recorded as the RSI Plunges into Oversold Territory

LVMH declines 1.26% in session trading and quotes at €406.05, but it is the intraday low that draws attention: the stock touched €405.70 in session, thus breaking through the previous floor of €405.85 recorded in 2020. This represents a six-year low, reached in a CAC 40 that retreats by 0.32%. Over one month, losses amount to 15.41%, placing the stock among the biggest decliners in the CAC 40 at this timeframe. The chart shows continuous pressure since early September.

The price is trading well below its three moving averages: 9.10% below the 20-day MA at €446.68, 13.29% below the 50-day MA at €468.28, and 21.07% below the 200-day MA at €514.42. The RSI at 29 signals a pronounced oversold configuration, consistent with the scale of the recent decline, without a technical rebound having yet materialized. The reference resistance level remains at €486.90, approximately 19% above the current price.

Two analyst opinions were published in recent hours. Oddo BHF lowered its price target on Thursday from €590 to €524, while maintaining its opinion at "outperform". Even at this downwardly revised target, the gap with the current price still represents nearly 29%. HSBC, for its part, shifted its opinion yesterday from "buy" to "hold", with a target set at €490, representing an upside potential of approximately 20% compared to current levels, but increased caution on near-term dynamics. These adjustments come in a fundamentally pressured context.

At the publication of first-half 2026 results (July 27, 2026), the group had signaled a negative currency effect of -5% weighing on sales and mentioned a disrupted geopolitical context among its principal risks. The surge in Brent crude above $100 per barrel since September 9, in the wake of tensions between the United States and Iran, amplifies these headwinds for a group whose affluent clientele remains sensitive to the broader macro climate. Furthermore, recent data on the luxury sector in China, a key market for the group, shows a 10.1% year-on-year decline in jewelry sales in July 2026 according to the National Bureau of Statistics. LVMH's next earnings publication will constitute the reference milestone for measuring the scope of these effects on the group's accounts.
