Genfit details its ACLF strategy and MASH diagnostics at the AASLD congress
On November 2, 2026, Genfit presented a programme of scientific and strategic activities held on the sidelines of the AASLD The Liver Meeting 2026 congress. The Lille-based biotech highlights two areas: its therapeutic approach in acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) and its diagnostic activity for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH).
ACLF: a clinical file to advance nangibotide into Phase 2
On November 8, 2026, Genfit will hold a scientific event, with Professor Jennifer Lai (UC San Francisco) as speaker, to present its “multi-target” approach to ACLF. This approach aims to address the complex pathophysiology of the disease through complementary therapeutic mechanisms.
Nangibotide, a TREM-1 modulator, will be the subject of a detailed review. According to Genfit, its development file relies on existing clinical data at the proposed dose, on available clinical supply, and on regulatory data, which informed the decision to advance it into Phase 2 in ACLF.
The efficacy signals and tolerability data highlighted come from earlier clinical studies conducted in other indications. The forward-looking statements in the press release mention a planned Phase 2a proof-of-concept study in ACLF.
Three posters will also be presented on November 6, 2026. Two of them, based on work carried out in a murine model of acute liver failure, focus on the role of the immune system, in particular neutrophils.
The third relies on ex vivo blood tests, performed on samples collected in a clinical setting, to document the anti-inflammatory activity of nitazoxanide (formulation G1090N), in support of its development in ACLF.
On November 5, 2026, management will also present its ACLF strategy to the North American consortium NACSELD, a Genfit partner specialising in cirrhosis and ACLF. Genfit indicates that its partner Ipsen, which markets elafibranor under the brand name Iqirvo, is also expected to communicate about this molecule during the congress.
MASH: Genfit highlights its non-invasive blood tests
Regarding MASH diagnosis, Genfit will take part on November 4, 2026 in the “Beyond the Biopsy” forum of the Global Liver Institute, which brings together clinical experts, patients and industry players, including Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk and Madrigal.
Discussions will focus on the obstacles to the large-scale deployment of non-invasive diagnostics: clinical pathways, access, reimbursement and regulation.
On November 6, 2026, an expert panel organised by Genfit, including Professors Vlad Ratziu and Kenneth Cusi, the Fatty Liver Foundation and a head of diagnostic partnerships at Novo Nordisk, will address the identification and monitoring of patients with at-risk MASH, as well as the potential role of the NIS technology.
The group recalls that two independent consortia, NIMBLE and LITMUS, have validated its technology. NIMBLE identified it as the only one among those evaluated specifically designed to diagnose at-risk MASH; LITMUS showed that it offered the highest diagnostic accuracy among the blood-based, imaging and combined modalities evaluated.
The NASHnext test, based on NIS4 technology, has been reimbursed by Medicare since August 10, 2026 for patients who meet the eligibility criteria. Its next-generation version, NIS2+, is available in the United States through Labcorp as a laboratory-developed test, without FDA authorisation or CE marking.
