Michelin, technical partner of Segway's electric motorcycle for the 2028 Dakar
Michelin will be involved from the design stage of Segway's future 100% electric competition motorcycle, and not only during races. The partnership was announced on November 4, 2026, and is due to be formalized the same day during a signing ceremony at the EICMA 2026 show in Milan (Italy).
A dual role as official supplier and technical partner
Michelin will hold two roles with the Segway Dakar Rally Factory Team: official tire supplier and technical partner. The team will start the 2028 Dakar with brand-new 100% electric motorcycles that Segway is developing for this rally-raid.
According to the press release, the agreement covering the Dakar is part of a broader rapprochement between the two companies in the two-wheeler sector. The competition is presented as an "accelerator of development and innovation".

Initially, Michelin will support the team in selecting the Enduro and Desert tires best suited to the different development phases. Its teams will also provide recommendations on their use, as well as on the selection, mounting and operation of Michelin Bib Mousse, its anti-puncture solution.
Working and training sessions will bring together Michelin Motorsport specialists and Segway engineers. The two partners will jointly establish a testing program to collect data under conditions representative of the rally-raid, before optimizing the tires according to the final characteristics of the machine.
Torque, mass and energy at the heart of tire work
The characteristics of the electric powertrain (torque, mass, traction, energy management) will be included in the analysis of the stresses imposed on the tires. At the Dakar, these motorcycles face additional range constraints on long stages. Michelin, which has taken part in the event since 1983, has 40 victories to its name.
Cyriaque Echevin, Michelin off-road tires marketing director, said: "Our role will go far beyond supplying tires: our teams will work alongside Segway engineers from the earliest phases of the project to share our rally-raid experience and contribute to the development of the new motorcycle."
