OVHcloud becomes the only European cloud provider as CNCF Platinum member
In a communication published on October 26, 2026, the Roubaix-based group announced its entry to the highest membership level of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) as an extension of its digital sovereignty strategy. According to OVHcloud, this is not solely about data and infrastructure control, but also about the capacity to influence the technologies that shape the cloud.
A seat on the Governing Board alongside AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft
With this status, OVHcloud indicates it has become the only cloud provider headquartered in Europe to reach the foundation's highest membership level. The group is one of only three European companies among the 19 Platinum members, alongside notably AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure and Oracle. It is represented on the Governing Board by Yaniv Fdida, Chief Product and Technology Officer. The company places this membership in a context where, according to it, major cloud orientations remain largely driven by a few large non-European providers. It believes that European players must be present where open standards are decided, so that these integrate European expectations regarding data protection, reversibility and interoperability. "We are convinced that Europe must be able to take part in defining the technologies that structure its digital future, and not just adopt them," the group states. OVHcloud clarifies that the objective is not to build separate standards, but to contribute to open and interoperable technologies. The challenge put forward for businesses and public actors is to be able to switch providers without rebuilding everything, combine multiple environments and maintain control of their data as well as their costs.
Kubernetes, Cilium and AI at the heart of open source commitment
Designer of its own servers and operator of its data centers, OVHcloud recalls its commitment to open source technologies since 2012, with OpenStack. Its Managed Kubernetes Service runs thousands of clusters in production across 20 public cloud regions, relying on Kubernetes and Cilium, two CNCF projects. In 2020, the group's engineers developed a Kubernetes operator for Harbor, another foundation project, of which they became maintainers. With Platinum membership, OVHcloud indicates it is now taking part in the governance of these technologies. The group extends this logic to artificial intelligence, with increasingly more projects relying on Kubernetes to manage computing resources, particularly GPUs. Its AI Deploy and Managed Kubernetes Service offerings have been compliant since March 2026 with the Kubernetes AI Conformance program, a common reference framework defined by the CNCF community.
