TGV M: Alstom and SNCF Voyageurs Receive European Green Light Ahead of Launch
The TGV-M, the new high-speed train from Alstom and SNCF Voyageurs, received its market authorization from the European Railway Agency (ERA) on Friday. Commercial deployment begins in the summer, with the first passengers welcomed in September.
ERA Authorization Achieved, Final Step Before Operation
Alstom and SNCF Voyageurs announce that the TGV-M has received its market authorization (MA) issued by the ERA. This decision validates the train's compliance with European safety and interoperability requirements, following test campaigns conducted since 2023 and an application dossier submitted in December 2025. Martin Sion, CEO of Alstom, describes this decision as 'a demanding recognition' that 'reflects the quality of the dossier and the commitment of the teams mobilized since the test campaign'.
Deliveries Scheduled to Start in the Summer, Scaling Up in the Second Half
The jointly established industrial schedule anticipates the first delivery of two trainsets in June 2026, followed by an increase to six trainsets by the end of August and thirteen by the end of the year. These deliveries kick off the deployment of a total of 160 ordered trainsets (130 for SNCF Voyageurs and 30 for Eurostar, with an additional 20 optional trainsets). Before welcoming passengers, a pre-commercial running phase of several weeks is planned on the national network. This stage will mobilize hundreds of teams to verify the onboard experience, facilitate the train's adoption by operational teams, and finalize the last adjustments.
First Passengers in September with a Renewed Offering
The TGV-M will welcome its first passengers at the start of September, following the pre-commercial summer running. Christophe Fanichet, CEO of SNCF Voyageurs, emphasizes that this train 'will change the experience of high-speed travel' and represents 'a strategic asset to attract more passengers and compete in our markets in France and Europe.'
