Valeo stock surges 2.5% following Jefferies upgrade to buy
The Parisian automotive supplier is accelerating significantly this Wednesday, September 23rd morning, driven by a favorable analyst opinion published today. The rebound is part of a bullish dynamic that has consolidated over recent weeks, with the stock now firmly anchored above its three moving averages.
Jefferies raises target to €17.85 while upgrading to buy
Valeo gains 2.61% to €15.16 in trading, ranking among the strongest gainers of the SBF 120 while the Paris index advances by only 0.09%. The catalyst is clear: Jefferies upgraded this morning its rating from "hold" to "buy" and raised its price target from €13.20 to €17.85, representing a potential upside of approximately 18% from the current price. This upgrade marks a notable turning point in the coverage of this security by this research firm.
The analyst consensus is thus improving precisely as the stock confirms its grip on the €15 zone, which it had broken above last week. Valuation remains modest relative to consensus: based on expected earnings, the stock trades at approximately 9.7 times current fiscal year results and 7.4 times those of the following fiscal year, according to analyst consensus. When publishing H1 2026 results (July 22, 2026), Valeo had reaffirmed all of its full-year targets, a commitment deemed credible in a geopolitical and macroeconomic environment that it itself characterized as uncertain.
Solid technical momentum, but short positions remain heavy on the capital
The stock is trading clearly above its three moving averages: the 20-day MA at €14.46 (a spread of nearly 5%), the 50-day MA at €14.26 (a spread of over 6%) and the 200-day MA at €12.63 (a spread of nearly 20%). The RSI at 55 remains in neutral territory, far from any overbought signal, leaving room for the current momentum to continue. The resistance at €15.50 is now in focus, less than 25 cents away from the current price, after the breakthrough of the €15.07 resistance was established on September 17th.
The backdrop remains however tempered by a high level of bearish positions: according to filings consulted, nine funds cumulate 10.60% of capital sold short, a ratio showing a slight decline of 0.33 percentage points over thirty days. This progressive decrease in shorts accompanies the rise without contradicting it, but reminds us that a significant fraction of the capital remains positioned against the stock. The next pivot will be the ability to break through and hold above the €15.50 resistance.
