ABN AMRO: €33 million impact in the third quarter despite the annulment of the SRB decision
On 4 November 2026, the General Court of the European Union annulled the decision of the Single Resolution Board on the calculation of an ABN AMRO subsidiary's contribution to the Single Resolution Fund, without calling into question the method contested by the bank.
For the Dutch group, the ruling results in a negative impact of approximately €33 million on net income after tax, which will be recognised in the third-quarter 2026 results.
An accounting item linked to securitisations at the heart of the dispute
The dispute pitted ABN AMRO and its subsidiary ABN AMRO Hypotheken Groep (AAHG) against the Single Resolution Board (SRB) over the calculation of AAHG's contributions to the Single Resolution Fund for the 2016-2023 period. At issue was the inclusion in the calculation of a specific accounting item linked to securitisations, which the SRB had decided to include in 2023.
Following that decision, AAHG paid an additional contribution of approximately €120 million under reserve. The bank and its subsidiary argued that taking this item into account amounted to counting the underlying economic risk twice, and asked the Court to rule on the matter.
The Court upheld the method but considered the late additional demands untimely

The Court considered that the SRB had been right to include this item in the calculation, but that the additional contributions for the years 2016 to 2018 had been imposed too late. It annulled the SRB's decision, which must recalculate the contributions and bear ABN AMRO's legal costs.
The bank had recorded this additional contribution as a receivable in its accounts; only part of it will be reimbursed by the SRB.
ABN AMRO states that it supports the objectives of the Single Resolution Fund, the common resolution fund of the banks of the European Banking Union, and specifies that the proceedings concerned solely the method of calculating its contribution. The group said it would examine the ruling.
