Afyren Achieves B Corp Certification with a Score of 104
Afyren announced on Wednesday that it has obtained B Corp certification at the group level, with a score of 104, significantly surpassing national and sector benchmarks. This recognition is accompanied by the publication of its third sustainability report.
B Corp Score Well Above Sector Benchmarks
Afyren achieved a B Corp certification score of 104, higher than the national benchmark (78) and the sector benchmark (77). This certification, developed by B Lab and independently verified according to ISO 17021-1 requirements, assesses a company's social, environmental, and governance performance. The group has demonstrated strong performance across a wide range of sustainability criteria, including governance, environment, community, and social impact. It notably recognizes Afyren's business model as an Impact Business Model, based on an environmentally innovative manufacturing process.
A Circular, Low-Carbon Bioeconomy Model at the Heart of Recognition
The B Corp certification acknowledges Afyren's circular and low-carbon bioeconomy model. This model is based on the valorization of local biomass from non-food agricultural by-products to produce 100% bio-based and low-carbon carboxylic acids. Nicolas Sordet, CEO of Afyren, stated that this certification 'reinforces our CSR strategy' and 'recognizes the robustness of our economic model and the choices we have made since the company's inception.' He added that it provides 'additional confidence to our customers, partners, employees, and investors in our ability to create long-term value for people and the planet.'
Publication of the Third Sustainability Report
The B Corp certification coincides with the publication of Afyren's third sustainability report, voluntarily issued and structured according to the framework of the European Directive on corporate sustainability reporting (CSRD). This report offers stakeholders a transparent overview of the group's sustainability priorities, actions, and progress. Caroline Petigny, Chief Sustainability Officer at Afyren, emphasized that integrating sustainability into the company's strategy has been done 'from the start, because it is closely linked to our model and purpose, and how we want to grow as a company.' She noted that this recognition 'complements other certifications and recognitions received over the years.'
