ArcelorMittal stock posts second consecutive gain and flirts with its 20-day moving average
The Luxembourg-based steelmaker chains a second consecutive gain on the Paris stock exchange, while the CAC 40 advances modestly during the session. The security now evolves in contact with its twenty-day moving average, in a market context dominated by anticipation of the U.S. Federal Reserve's decision.
A rebound that brings the security back into contact with its 20-day MA, midway between support and resistance
ArcelorMittal gains 1.52% to €64.20 during the session, after losing ground in recent sessions. The security now finds itself virtually in contact with its twenty-day moving average, set at €64.06, with a gap of only 0.22%. Above, it maintains a comfortable cushion compared to its 50-day MA at €61.66, a gap of more than 4%. The configuration therefore remains positive on longer-term averages, with the price trading well above the 200-day MA at €52.19, a gap of more than 23%.
The RSI at 49 is in neutral territory, without marked directional signals. Between the support level at €61.16 and the resistance level at €67.54, the security occupies approximately half of the range, far from technical extremes. The CAC 40 advances 0.4% during the session in this context, while the VIX, at 16.98, shows a slight easing compared to the previous day.
A security that performs over one year despite a geopolitical context weighing on its Ukrainian sites
Over one year, the steelmaker posts a gain of 117%, which remains one of the most remarkable trajectories on the CAC 40 over the period. Over three months, the advance reaches 7.14%, although the past week was more difficult with a decline of 4.01%. This rebound occurs as the Ukrainian steelmaking site in Kryvyi Rih was targeted on September 14 by a ballistic strike, causing the death of two contractors and injuring two employees.
The issue of the group's Ukrainian exposure has weighed on the file for several weeks, with the site having already been hit in late August with two deaths and thirteen wounded. On the macroeconomic front, the Fed's monetary policy decision is expected on Wednesday, September 16, with a probable increase of 25 basis points: an additional tightening of global financial conditions could indirectly weigh on industrial steel demand. Upon the publication of first-half 2026 results on July 30, the group had displayed positive prospects in the short, medium and long term, while emphasizing the robustness of earnings quality.
