Atlantic Airways Orders Two A320neo Aircraft from Airbus to Standardize Its Fleet
The national carrier of the Faroe Islands formalized on October 27, 2026, from Toulouse, a purchase agreement with the European manufacturer. The operation is part of the transition of its fleet toward a single model, the A320neo, with the stated objective of operational synergies and simplified maintenance.
Current Fleet of Four Aircraft, Half A320ceo
Atlantic Airways has signed with Airbus a firm order for two A320neo aircraft. The airline currently operates four aircraft from the A320 family: two A320ceo and two A320neo.
According to the press release, this order supports the airline's transition to a fleet composed exclusively of A320neo. Standardization around a single model should enable operational synergies and rationalized maintenance, a concrete challenge for a carrier whose fleet comprises only four aircraft.
The Ambition of an Entirely A320neo Fleet
Niels Mortensen, Chairman of the Board of Atlantic Airways, stated that the airline's ambition was "to operate a fleet composed exclusively of A320neo in the near future," describing the agreement as a "significant step" toward this objective. He added that this investment would contribute to the "continuous renewal" of the fleet while supporting efficient operations.
On the manufacturer's side, Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President in charge of sales for Airbus Commercial Aircraft division, indicated that the addition of these two aircraft reflected the airline's commitment to regional connectivity for Faroese communities.
Over 20,400 Orders for the A320 Family
According to Airbus, the A320 family has recorded over 20,400 orders worldwide. The manufacturer indicates that these aircraft offer at least 20% fuel savings and CO₂ emissions reduction compared to the previous generation of single-aisle aircraft.
