Engie: non-nuclear EBIT up 10.9% organically in the third quarter, 2026 outlook at the upper end of the range
Engie published its results for the first nine months of 2026 on 5 November 2026, showing an acceleration of organic growth during the year. Non-nuclear EBIT rose 10.9% organically in the third quarter alone, compared with an organic increase of 3.3% over the first nine months as a whole.
At €7.0 billion, this aggregate shows a reported increase of 9.7%, which includes UK Power Networks, consolidated since May 2026. On this basis, the group now expects 2026 recurring net income, Group share, to be at the upper end of its range of €4.9 billion to €5.5 billion.
UK Power Networks drives the reported increase, organic growth accelerates in the third quarter
UK Power Networks' contribution to EBIT has reached €452 million since May 2026. The reported figure for non-nuclear EBIT includes this contribution, which explains the gap with organic growth over nine months. The acquisition's effect is therefore added to an organic base whose growth remains more moderate on a cumulative basis.
The pace has nevertheless changed during the year: with 10.9% organic growth in the third quarter, the most recent period on its own is growing significantly faster than the nine-month average. Catherine MacGregor, Chief Executive Officer, refers to “significant organic growth over the last two quarters, to which the contribution of UK Power Networks is now added”.
The performance plan contributed approximately €400 million over the period. The Chief Executive cites this contribution, alongside the deployment of capital, among the factors that enable the group to continue its strategy “despite a volatile macroeconomic environment”.
Renewables and storage: 60.2 GW installed and 6.6 GW under construction
The Renewables & BESS (renewables and battery energy storage) business had 60.2 GW of installed capacity at the end of September 2026, to which 6.6 GW under construction is added. The group signed more than 3 GW of long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) over the first nine months, which feeds the volume of capacity under contract.
Storage is taking a growing place in this portfolio: Engie claims more than 10 GW of storage capacity in operation and under construction worldwide at the end of September. The Chief Executive states that the group has “accelerated the development” of its battery portfolio in Europe.
This deployment continued after the close of the quarter. On 29 October 2026, the group announced the commissioning of 450 MW of solar capacity in India, in Rajasthan and Gujarat, countries where it indicated it had approximately 2 GW of capacity in operation or under construction.
Economic net debt at €62.5 billion, Belgian nuclear negotiations until 12 December
Cash generation amounts to €7.5 billion of CFFO, an indicator that the group defines as free cash flow before maintenance capex and nuclear exit expenses. Economic net debt reaches €62.5 billion, for an economic net debt to EBITDA ratio of 4.2 times.
This ratio only takes into account five months of UK Power Networks' consolidation in EBITDA. On the Belgian matter, Engie has obtained an additional extension, until 12 December 2026, to conclude the agreement in principle (Heads of Terms) in the context of the potential acquisition of its nuclear activities by the Belgian State.
The publication comes the day after the stock broke through resistance at €23.64, following a long decline that had left the share price below most of its moving averages.
The first nine months thus combine an organic acceleration in the third quarter with the integration of UK Power Networks, whose contribution still weighs only partially on the published debt ratio.
