Eurazeo to Manage the Lighthouse Initiative, a $40 Million Biodiversity Investment Vehicle with Bank of America
The Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI) and Bank of America have launched the Lighthouse Initiative, an investment vehicle for nature and biodiversity whose management has been entrusted to Eurazeo. The Paris-based asset manager presented its terms in a press release published on November 2, 2026.
Launched on September 23, 2026 with $40 million in commitments, the initiative has Bank of America and Eurazeo as anchor investors. It has been designed to welcome new partners and investors in order to increase its scale.
Minority Stakes Anchored in the Kunming-Montreal Framework
The initiative aims to channel private capital toward new economic models linked to nature and biodiversity, which are described as still underfunded. It will make minority investments in project development platforms and in a selection of technology solutions, in both developed and emerging markets.
Each investment must contribute to at least one of the targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The press release cites Target 3, known as “30x30”, which aims to conserve and manage at least 30% of the planet’s land areas, inland waters, coastal areas and marine areas by 2030.
The vehicle is also part of the SMI’s Terra Carta, a mandate launched in 2021 by the former Prince of Wales to place sustainability at the heart of the private sector.
Eurazeo’s Future Industries Team in Charge
Management will be handled by Eurazeo’s Future Industries team, which invests in sustainable industries, including nature and biodiversity. Investments will be tracked using the group’s impact framework, enhanced with biodiversity-specific indicators, such as an assessment of biodiversity footprint.
Matthieu Bonamy, Partner, Future Industries at Eurazeo, stated that “biodiversity remains one of the most underfunded investment themes”. He added: “With this initiative, we want to demonstrate that it is economically relevant, and at scale, to protect and restore nature.”
For Brian Moynihan, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bank of America and Chair of the SMI, “Eurazeo has demonstrated its ability to support hundreds of companies, and the Lighthouse Initiative can help create even more opportunities”.
