Kinepolis: Attendance Up 33.8% and Revenue of €341.8M in H1 2026
Kinepolis published on August 20, 2026 half-yearly results showing progress across its main volume and revenue indicators. The combination of an expanded film offering and the integration of Emagine cinemas in the United States explains most of this momentum, as the group continues its expansion across the Atlantic.
Beyond the reported growth, the publication reveals an increase in attendance (+33.8%) slightly higher than that of revenue (+32.6%), the latter having suffered adverse currency effects mentioned by the group.
Attendance and Revenue Up Double Digits in H1 2026
Kinepolis welcomed 19.1 million visitors during the first half of 2026, an increase of 33.8% compared to the same period of the previous year. Revenue grew by 32.6% to reach €341.8 million, despite adverse currency effects reported by the group.
This growth is supported by an expanded film offering and the integration of 14 Emagine cinemas in the United States, the acquisition of which was completed in February 2026. The group indicates that its profitability saw a more pronounced increase than revenue, which it attributes to the continued implementation of its premiumization strategy.
Late 2025 Films in Q1, New Releases in Q2
According to the group, the first quarter benefited from films released in late 2025, such as "Avatar: Fire and Ash" and "Zootopia 2". The second quarter was driven by "Super Mario Galaxy, the movie", "Michael", "Project Hail Mary" and "Toy Story 5", supplemented by medium-scale releases and local films in Spain and France.
Chief Executive Officer Eddy Duquenne links these results to what he describes as a supply issue in the industry, which is now being resolved. He also cites investments in customer experience, cost control and portfolio expansion through acquisitions as factors in the growth.
American Expansion Continued with Showcase Cinemas Acquisition
Kinepolis has concluded an agreement for the acquisition of Showcase Cinemas in the United States, which follows the completion of the purchase of Emagine Entertainment. The group also cites several achievements from the half-year, including the opening of the only 70mm IMAX screen in the Benelux at Kinepolis Brussels and the complete equipping of the Breda cinema with reclining seats, the first in the network to do so.
The group indicates it is approaching the rest of the year with confidence, relying on a film schedule it describes as solid for the second half and on investments made and planned. It notes that the third quarter started well thanks to the successes of "The Odyssey" and "Spider-Man: Brand New Day".
