Biman Bangladesh Airlines Orders Ten Airbus Aircraft, Including Four A350s, to Target North America
Bangladesh's national carrier has made a firm commitment with the European aircraft manufacturer. This order is part of its fleet modernization and its international network expansion project.
A firm order signed in the presence of the Bangladeshi government
Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the flag carrier of Bangladesh, has signed a firm order for 10 next-generation Airbus aircraft. The announcement was made from Toulouse on October 7, 2026.
The signing ceremony brought together Rumee A. Hossain, chairman of the airline's board of directors, and Jürgen Westermeier, president of Airbus for South Asia. In attendance were notably M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism of Bangladesh, Dr Humaiun Kobir, minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Kaiser Sohel Ahmed, chief executive officer of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
Four wide-body aircraft and six single-aisle models to target North America
The order is divided between four A350-900s, wide-body aircraft, and six A321neos, single-aisle aircraft. Operated from the airline's main hub in Dhaka, these aircraft are intended to support its project to serve North America, as well as key destinations in Europe and the Middle East.
The press release highlights a significant Bangladeshi diaspora, notably in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, which supports demand on international routes. It also cites growth in foreign trade, which fuels air freight needs.
"Bangladesh is a dynamic nation of 200 million people," declared Rumee A. Hossain. He evoked a worldwide diaspora of 15 million people and qualified the planned fleet expansion as a "measured and reasonable ambition".
Range and consumption: the arguments put forward by Airbus
According to Airbus, the A350 can travel up to 9,700 nautical miles, or 18,000 kilometers, non-stop. Its Rolls-Royce engines and lightweight materials provide it, according to the aircraft manufacturer, with a 25% advantage in fuel consumption, operating costs and CO₂ emissions compared to competing aircraft of the previous generation.
The A321neo, the largest model in the A320neo family, reduces fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by at least 20% compared to previous generation aircraft, still according to Airbus. Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, executive vice president in charge of sales for Airbus's commercial aircraft business, described this order as an "important milestone" in the partnership with the airline.
