Car market: Renault and Stellantis decline in a market up 3.3%
In October 2026, the French light vehicle market grew 3.3% year on year, to 177,164 registrations. Against the trend, Groupe Renault (43,049 units, -4.57%) and Stellantis (45,731 units, -4.70%) both declined, losing ground relative to the sector as a whole. Renault profile · Stellantis profile.
In an expanding market, the two leading groups post comparable volume declines and therefore underperform the overall trend. Stellantis retains its position as the leading national player with a market share of 25.81% for the month, ahead of Groupe Renault at 24.30%. Year to date, the gap persists: Stellantis totals 465,586 registrations (-1.59%, market share 27.98%), versus 433,554 for Groupe Renault (-0.99%, market share 26.06%). Both groups are thus declining faster than the market, but Groupe Renault's annual decline remains more contained than that of its competitor. As a backdrop, electric vehicles now account for 32.50% of the passenger car market year to date, compared with 18.90% a year earlier.

Groupe Renault's decline in October is primarily attributable to Dacia, whose registrations fell to 8,502 units (-23.63%, market share 4.80%), a decline that extends to the year-to-date total (106,280 units, -11.94%). Conversely, the Renault brand rose to 34,090 registrations (+1.47%, market share 19.24%) and confirms its annual momentum (321,263 units, +2.64%). Alpine, meanwhile, posts the group's strongest relative growth for the month (457 units, +19.95%), but on marginal volumes. The internal mix therefore diverges markedly, with the Renault and Alpine brands partially offsetting Dacia's slump. Stellantis, for its part, declined 4.70% in October, while the overall French light vehicle market rose 3.30%.
