L'Oréal stock rebounds and tests its 50-day moving average at €382.73
The Paris-based cosmetics group's share price is gaining ground on Monday, moving into positive territory as the CAC 40 advances nearly 1% during the session. The rebound brings the price to a key technical level in a globally serene market despite a tighter monetary context on a global scale.
A rebound that brings the stock back to its 50-day moving average
L'Oréal gains 1.46% to €381.55 during the session, after closing Friday at €376.05. This rebound brings the stock practically in line with its MM50, set at €382.73, from which it diverges by only 0.31%. The MM20 remains slightly above, at €383.79, so the price continues to trade below both its short-term moving averages. The MM200 at €375.40, however, continues to provide a floor: the price is 1.64% above it.
The RSI at 43 reflects a neutral configuration, with no oversold or overbought signals. Over the week, the stock shows modest growth of 0.45%, after a slightly negative month at -1.1%. The support identified at €370 remains distant from the current price, while resistance at €392.50 constitutes the next hurdle to overcome to confirm a more pronounced recovery.
Solid fundamentals but a macroeconomic context that complicates visibility
When publishing first-half 2026 results on July 29th, the group had posted record operating margin of 21.3% and reaffirmed its confidence in its ability to outperform the market. Management then targeted another year of revenue growth and margin progression, despite a negative currency impact of 2.8% on revenue as of end-June 2026. In this context, exposure to the Chinese market remains a point of concern: the cosmetics segment grew 4.9% year-on-year in August 2026 according to NBS data, illustrating gradual recovery, but the group itself emphasized during these half-year results that this market remained selective and challenging.
Added to this is a global monetary environment that is tightening: the Fed, ECB and Bank of Japan have all raised their benchmark rates this week, a pressure that can weigh on valuations of large consumer groups exposed to emerging markets. The next technical test for the stock will be the firm recapture of the MM50 at €382.73, followed by the MM20 at €383.79, two levels that the price has not exceeded sustainably in several weeks.
