Nexans to supply 420 km of cables in Greece as a subcontractor to Hellenic Cables
The cable manufacturer announced on 6 November 2026 that it had concluded this agreement with Hellenic Cables, the awardee of the Corinth-Kos interconnection designated by the Greek transmission system operator (IPTO). For Nexans, the order feeds its paper-insulated, impregnated cable lines from late 2026 to mid-2028.
Nexans supplies the 110 kV system for a project awarded to Hellenic Cables
Nexans has signed a subcontracting agreement with Hellenic Cables, within the consortium formed with Asso.subsea. The group will supply a 420 km, 110 kV MI (mass-impregnated) cable system for the Corinth-Kos HVDC interconnection, with a capacity of 1 GW and a voltage of 320 kV.
The interconnection was awarded by IPTO to Hellenic Cables. It comprises approximately 1,260 km of submarine cables and 30 km of land cables, and connects the Dodecanese islands to the Greek mainland. Nexans is therefore intervening as a subcontractor on a project for which it is not the direct awardee.
A load for the MI cable lines until mid-2028
Project-related activities have been launched on Nexans’ MI cable production lines, as well as a seabed survey. According to the group, they will help secure a level of activity on these lines from late 2026, throughout 2027 and until mid-2028.
Pascal Radue, EVP PWR-Transmission at Nexans, stressed that “this contract also supports a significant level of activity across our industrial sites.”
An island link signed after Red Eléctrica’s selection
“This project illustrates the growing need for high-voltage electricity transmission infrastructure to interconnect territories, strengthen power grids and support electrification,” Pascal Radue also stated.
On 22 October 2026, Nexans had announced that it had been selected as preferred supplier by Red Eléctrica for an electrical link between Mallorca and Menorca. This selection opened a preliminary engineering phase, expected to lead to an EPCI contract, whereas the Greek agreement concerns a signed subcontracting contract.
