STMicroelectronics Begins Production of STM32 Chips in China, a Global First
STMicroelectronics announces the start of shipments of STM32 microcontrollers manufactured in China, marking a major milestone in its global supply chain strategy. This local production aligns with commitments to Chinese customers and the diversification of manufacturing sources.
Launch of General-Purpose STM32 Microcontrollers in China
STMicroelectronics has initiated the delivery of general-purpose STM32 microcontrollers produced in China in partnership with Huahong. The company reports that it has become the first global industrial semiconductor firm to have a dual supply chain, featuring 40 nm microcontrollers fully processed and manufactured in China, using the same design and technologies as those made outside China. Several additional STM32 families, including performance-oriented, secure, and entry-level series, are set for local volume production in 2026.
Establishment of a Fully Localized STM32 Supply Chain in China
STMicroelectronics has established a fully localized STM32 supply chain in China, encompassing all stages from wafer fabrication to packaging and testing. The front-end manufacturing is conducted by Huahong, utilizing 40 nm embedded non-volatile memory technology and quality control standards identical to those of global factories. Packaging and testing are carried out at the Shenzhen facility and by local assembly and testing partners. This model provides customers with a dual sourcing option while ensuring consistent quality and global compatibility.
