Atos stock plunges 21% over one month, short positions have doubled
The IT services and cybersecurity group's share price is amplifying its decline this Thursday, in a European market under pressure, against the backdrop of rising bond yields. The decline occurs as short positions have surged significantly over one month, a sign of persistent downward pressure.
A decline of 3.47% reflecting a profound downward trend across multiple timeframes
The Atos Group share is down 3.47% to €22.84 during the session, compared to €23.66 at yesterday's close. Over one week, the decline has already reached 10.57%, and over one month it exceeds 21%. The underlying trend remains highly degraded, with a loss of 32% over three months. The stock is thus among the steepest declines of the SBF 120, within an index that itself is down 0.81% during trading, affected by rising bond yields in the eurozone. On the fundamentals front, when releasing first half 2026 results on July 30th, the group guided toward organic revenue growth of approximately -5% and an operating margin around 7%.
A cautious tone that had illustrated the difficulty of the turnaround trajectory. On the commercial front, the group joined France Cyber Maritime on September 23rd to strengthen its positioning in maritime cybersecurity, in the context of strengthened requirements linked to the NIS2 directive. Earlier in the week, Eviden and AllWayTon had announced the launch of a triple-mode smartphone for rail transport. These commercial announcements were insufficient to halt the stock's decline.
Short positions showing marked progression and technical configuration displaying pronounced oversold conditions
The downward pressure on the stock is also visible in short position declarations. According to consultable declarations, four funds cumulatively hold 3% of capital sold short, compared to 1.80% thirty days ago, representing a progression of 1.20 percentage points over the month. This doubling of short positions in one month reflects a rise in institutional distrust, although this type of positioning can also reflect hedging strategies rather than pure bearish conviction. The 3% capital level warrants monitoring over time. Technical analysis confirms the extent of deterioration.
The price at €22.84 is trading well below its three moving averages: the 20-day MA at €25.99 (difference of -12.12%), the 50-day MA at €28.58 (-20.08%) and the 200-day MA at €38.23 (-40.26%). The RSI at 26 signals an extreme oversold configuration, consistent with the accumulation of recent losses. The stock remains below its resistance level at €29.64, and no identified support has held since the breakdown of €23.50 in the previous session. Over one year, the total loss exceeds 54%.
